Disk Defragmentation

Posted on: Thursday, Mar 24, 2011

When you buy your new computer, everything is lovely, organised and neat on the nice new hard drive. But as you start using it, adding files, modifying files and removing files, things start to get less organised and this becomes apparent in your computer’s performance.  Windows has an inbuilt function called Disk Defragmentation. This Defrag tool can analyse and reorganise your hard drive.

1. Click on the Start Button.

2. Select ‘Computer’ or ‘My Computer’.

3. Right click on the drive you want to defragment and click on Properties.

4. You are presented with a window containing a number of tabs along the top, click on the ‘Tools’ tab.

5. Click on ‘Defragment Now…’

6. Ensure you have selected the correct drive and click the Defragment Disk button.
